My Kindermusik Community

Posted in Bits and Pieces

We’re so excited because today is Kindermusik Day in my household! Of course, as a mother, I am quite happy that my children are learning through music. The benefits each has received are priceless. I could write plenty of blogs about the benefits I have seen and how the amazing
foundations of learning pulled me into becoming a teacher.community

Yet, there is something else that always bubbles within me on Kindermusik Day. I long for community, friends, and conversations that only fellow families and caregivers of young children can appreciate and understand. On Kindermusik Day, my needs are met.

Over the last 4½ years, many of you have encouraged me, laughed with me, and taken power walks with me in all kinds of weather. Some of you even cried alongside me when my mother (who came to class with me) passed away four years ago. You’ve given me and my children gifts, hugs, and diapers. My seven-month-old daughter is even sporting some of the clothing that was passed down from fellow Kindermusik families.

As a mom, the sense of community has held me up over the years. Families come and go in the classes and some of us always remain. But the happiness of seeing each other every week and the history we carry with each other is simply wonderful. As parents and caregivers, we pour much
of ourselves into the children within our care. As a community, we pour into each other the laughter, support, and silliness we need to be refreshed and appreciated.

Seriously, who else would ride a stick pony with you and your kids? Roll on the floor next you pretending to be a dog…and might I mention, “wag their tail” next to you as well?

I loved the celebration of baby milestones in Village. Last week your child was sitting up happily enjoying the toys you placed in her lap. This week she is crawling and on the hunt for things to play with. The chase begins!

Now I’m swapping stories and commiserating with parents who struggle to have their preschooler realize that they cannot always pick the first scarf or be the first to be stamped after class. I’m laughing with parents whose kindergartner is already picking out who to marry in class. Yes, my son believes your daughter loves him and will make a great wife because she smiled at him twice. We joke together about becoming perfect Kindermusik in-laws!

When my parenting journey gets rough, I’m so glad for my fellow Kindermusik grown-ups. I’m so glad we have Kindermusik Days!
