Oh, the places you’ll go!

Posted in Bits and Pieces

oh-the-places-youll-goDr. Seuss sure knew what he was talking about when he wrote Oh the Places You’ll Go, the ABC book and of course Green Eggs & Ham. I have to admit I was not a faithful Dr. Seuss fan in my childhood. I preferred anything having to do with the Berenstein Bears and Shel Silverstein. My most favorite book of Shel’s was The Giving Tree.

Reading these books again reminds me of an intriguing, innocent and imaginative place that I once knew as my own fantasyland. Leave it to my daughter to show me the way back to that enchanted place where I can escape into the book and become part of the story.

Analiisa asked me to write about my favorite places to go with Hallie. The truth be told, one of our favorite places her reading nook at home with a stack of books that range from Dr. Seuss, Berenstein Bears, Dora the Explorer, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, to our Kindermusik books. Hallie has discovered the fascination of reading to herself and creating her own narratives with every turn of the page.

We all have heard that we need to read to our children at least 20 minutes a day. King County Library System (KCLS) has made it easier for us parents to access recommended books for our babies, toddlers and preschoolers with age appropriate booklists posted on their website.
