The Great Pumpkins
Posted in Bits and Pieces
I love the pumpkins everywhere! There were plenty of them with happy, silly, scary, and sad faces last week. But harvest season is still in full swing, so it’s not too late for one of my favorite pumpkin songs.
You can sing the following words to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star:”
Pumpkin, pumpkin on the ground,
How’d you get so big and round?
Planted as a seed so small,
Now you are a great big ball!
Pumpkin, pumpkin on the ground,
How’d you get so big and round?
Try some of these ideas (most work with children of many different ages): Make eye contact and sing it to your baby as part of intentional touch (aka baby massage). Clap, tap, or roll your hands and sing it with your toddler. Hold and hands and go ’round and ’round with your preschooleras you sing. Older children will have fun acting out the words or making up motions. Sing it slowly, quickly, then slowly again. Start slow, speed up each time you sing it and see how fast you can sing it!
