Wonderful Gifts From Wonderful Children
Posted in Bits and PiecesAs a Kindermusik teacher, I get some wonderful and unusual presents.
I have a pinecone that I keep in my teacher bag. It was proudly presented to me by a preschooler who brought it just for me. Thank you Amrita.
I have a snuggle in my memory…from a 14 month old, who toddled into my lap and put her sweet head on my shoulder. Thank you Jane.
I got a paper plate from a preschool boy. His nanny explained that paper plates were some of his very favorite things and he wanted me to have the one he brought me. I’m not sure if his love of paper plates came because we use them for ice skates and steering wheels in class, but regardless, thank you Christopher.
I have a basket with cards and drawings made for me by my students. Thank you to the children who are too many to list here!
In this season of gifts and giving, encourage your child to give. Their gifts don’t have to be expensive or complicated. In fact, things like homemade cards, hugs, and “I Made These for You Cookies,” come from the heart and will be treasured. If your child has a “Wish List” of things they want to get, be sure they also have a “Things I’m Giving List.” If they would like to buy a gift for someone & you are the one paying, take them along to pick it out and let them help with the wrapping.
On several occasions, my sons wanted a gift for one of their cousins that was just from them. They looked through their own possessions, and chose something they thought their cousin would like. The cousin may have liked the gift our whole family purchased for him better. But my sons received the joy of generosity: a gift for the giver.
