What you will experience in Kindermusik ABC, Music & Me class:

  • Songs and rhymes and finger plays. Your child will develop phonetic awareness and the early reading skills soon needed in school.
  • Tapping, clacking, and ringing instruments. Playing in time with music  improves hand-eye coordination, and develops the ability to keep a steady beat, vital to physical skills like dribbling a ball, riding a bike, skipping and cutting with scissors.
  • Focused listening. Intentional listening to music and sounds improves attention skills and direction following, which helps to ensure early school success. Discriminatory listening assists the child to listen deliberately (rather than just passively), and to use cognitive skills and deductive reasoning to determine what the sound is.
  • Creative movement. Dancing develops body control, sharpens direction-following skills, emphasizes teamwork, and builds community. Open movement gives your child the opportunity to explore what they can do and build on it, and practice what they are learning to do.
  • Instrument and manipulative play. These activities strengthen fine motor skills, improve eye hand coordination, and develop patterning – a skill essential to good reading and math performance.
  • Singing. Developmentally-appropriate songs in a child’s natural first range develop vocal chords and expressive speech.
  • Learning. A multi-sensory, whole-child approach integrates physical, cognitive, social, and emotional learning domains. This method emphasizes storytelling, imaginative play, and taking turns.
Silly All Over, Family and Friends, How Do You Feel?
Silly All Over – Laugh a little and get silly all over!  We will listen to silly sounds, move in silly ways, and read a story about a mouse that puts clothes on all the wrong places. Catch a case of the giggles!

Family and Friends – We’ll focus on those loved ones around us, and develop our social and emotional skills as we make conversations and take turns playing and listening. Cooperative ball play and dancing together will help build a community in class.

How Do You Feel?  - Learning to name and appropriately express emotions is an important part of growing up! We’ll explore things that make us feel happy, sad, surprised, angry and loved through stories, songs and movement.

With the At Home Materials, the learning continues with your child’s best teacher – you!
The ABC Music & MeHome Kit contains a variety of age-appropriate literature, activities, and games – all tied to the class content. If it’s sharing a story from class, listening or singing together, the home kit allows a parent to be involved in the learning process in your child’s first and foremost classroom – at home.

  • CD’s distributed throughout the semester, containing all the songs, rhymes, stories and sounds heard in class.
  • Magazine-style Family Guides which include the stories from class, activity pages, parent notes showing what your child learned in class, and can-do tips to continue the fun and learning at home.
  • Age-appropriate instruments that relate directly to content and concepts addressed in class.
