Wishy Washy Clean Hands!
Posted in parenting
Did you remember to wash your hands? I’ve said that at least a couple times a day for the last ….oh I don’t know, 25 years! We all know that hand washing is important to stop germs from spreading. When are the best times to wash your hands? How about before eating or helping prepare food ? (Have you checked out my chocolate chip cookie recipe yet?)
Hand washing is also very important after using the bathroom, blowing your nose, or coughing. Don’t forget to wash up after playing outside, touching animals, or visiting sick friends or relatives. Be sure to use warm water (not hot or cold) and soap.
Then, here’s a creative way to get your children to wash their hands for the recommended 15 – 20 seconds. Sing your favorite song! I love “Wishy Washy Wee” from Our Time: Wiggles and Giggles as it always gets the kids laughing:
Oh, we are two sailors come from o’er the sea,
If you want to go away again, come along with me.
Oh, wishy washy, wishy washy, wishy washy wee,
If you want to go away again, come along with me!
You can even come up with your own lyrics like:
Oh, we like to wash our hands up in the sink,
And when you finish washing them we’ll have some milk to drink!
Oh, wishy washy, wishy washy, wishy washy wee,
If you want to go away again, come along with me!
If you don’t know this song, here it is for you to learn:
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
Or, you can sing any song that comes to mind: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, the ABC’s, Happy Birthday… Just make it fun and you’ll create a habit that will last a lifetime!
